Text: The Committee agrees that the IWC guiding principles pertaining directly to commercial swim-with-whale (SWW) operations are generally being violated by SWW tourism. The Committee: (a) agrees that the guiding principles should be included in the online whalewatching handbook (Annex M, Item 7.1) and referenced by the Committee and the Conservation Committee’s Standing Working Group on Whalewatching in all relevant forums; and (b) requests that the Commission ask the Conservation Committee’ Standing Working Group on Whalewatching to work with the Secretariat to collect information from Member States as to the extent of swim-with-whale programmes within their jurisdictions.
